Vrijdag 10 juli 2020 zal een ARISS contact plaats vinden met leerlingen van de Don Bosco school uit Haacht.

Om 10.52 uur UTC-tijd bevindt het ISS zich boven het radiostation van AB1OC (New Hampshire-USA) die het contact gaat realiseren.
De leerlingen treden vanuit hun woonplaats en met videoverbinding langs het internet, in contact met het radiostation van AB1OC en astronaut C.J. Cassidy aan boord van het ISS.

De leerlingen stellen volgende vragen :

1    Siebe:        How can you tell time? Does day and night exist in the space station?
2    Denis:        What are the difficulties in space in putting clothes on?
3    Kwinten:    Why would you go outside the ISS? How many of you can leave at the same time?
4    Dries:         What anthropogenic influences or manmade structures on earth can you observe from space?
5    Renske:      Are you allowed to go back to earth immediately in case of a family related emergency?
6    Janna:        Is it possible to drink sparkling water on board of the ISS?
7    Hanne:       What kind of experiments do you do in space and do they sometimes include animals?
8    Paul:          Why would the ISS change its course and how fast can it do that?
9    Antoine:    Have you ever had any problems with oxygen, pressure or fire on board and how can you solve such problems?
10    Karel:       What do you do when you have free time?
11    Lander:    How did you feel when you took off?
12    Siebe:       How do the quality and duration of your sleep in the ISS differ from what you are used to on Earth?
13    Denis:       Are you continuously being monitored when you are in the ISS?
14    Kwinten:   Do you think extraterrestrial organisms exist?
15    Dries:        Is spaceX changing the way of life in the ISS?
16    Renske:    For how long can you stay in the ISS?
17    Janna:      Does the air in the ISS feel humid or warm? Has it any odor to it?
18    Hanne:     What personal belongings do you bring with you to the ISS?
19    Paul:         Can you see other satellites orbiting the earth?
20    Antoine:   What do you do with laundry and trash on board of the ISS?

Deze verbinding met videoconferentie langs het internet, is een wereldpremière.
Tot heden werden de inmiddels reeds 1.300 gerealiseerde Ariss contacten door middel van direct contact (tijdelijk radiostation aanwezig in de school) of telebridge (telefoongesprek tussen school en radiostation) tot stand gebracht.
Sinds de maatregelen in verband met COVID-19 van kracht werden, was dit enkel nog mogelijk langs telebridge en de telefoonverbinding.

In december 2019 was de Don Bosco school reeds compleet uitgerust om een directe verbinding tussen de school en het ISS tot stand te brengen.
De uiterst gemotiveerde leerlingen zorgden zelf voor de nodige antennes, antennesturingen en andere zaken om dit te realiseren.
