3A/ON5UR & 3A/ON8AK - Monaco
28-11-2012
Soumis par: ON9CFG
3A/ON5UR, Max and 3A/ON8AK, Marc have recently returned from Monaco where their DXpedition logged over 8,000 QSO's. Very challenging given the the QRN from plasma TV's and many other electrical noise surrounding the hotels in Monaco. QSL cards are being designed and are expected to be posted in time for Christmas.

IRC's

(courtesy M0URX) It is becoming increasingly clear that many Post Offices around the World are stopping selling International Reply Coupons due to falling demand, probably down to systems like PayPal. In the UK and USA it is now not possible to buy IRC's. Here in the UK it is unclear how long IRC's will be redeemed at the PO. Clearly this brings the UK Post Office in breach of its terms with the Universal Postal Union, so expect further developments in the near future as IRC's are withdrawn.

Always check with the QSL manager if he is able to accept IRC's. Look on QRZ.com profiles for this information.

PT0S – St Peter and St Paul Rocks

The ops are all right, but still coping with high waves affecting their equipment and the lack of space which forces them to sleep in the chairs.
I have also updated the log, it now contains nearly 29k QSOs, and George was able to squeeze a long awaited missing log from the earlier days of the expedition which was still missing due to the unreliable satellite link. Clublog is also updated, as well as LoTW, but do not expect your credits to appear quickly, it looks that the delay at LoTW is greater than we had initially thought.

George AA7JV states:
The waves just never stop. The 10m vertical got swamped again, this time we have filled the gamma match capacitor with Teflon grease. No salt water can get in there any more. Also, the CAT5 control cable to the main antenna tuner got shredded by the strong wave action at high tide and the sharp rocks it was laid over. The cable was replaced (and suspended) this morning. We got buried a few times by some large waves as we did the job at high tide; we did not want to lose the time waiting for low tide. (Low and high tides alternate approximately every 6 hours. The tidal range on SPSP is about 2.5 meters.) We are all suffering from a lack of sleep.
VP8GSK – South Georgia

The following is the latest information on the proposed operation from South Georgia by Mike, VP8SGK.

The JCR is now at King Edward Point, South Georgia, but is at anchor, which makes getting ashore more difficult. I will try to get to the base for 16/17Z. If the ship does arrive at 12z then I am likely to have work to carry out for most of the morning and part of the afternoon. I do have to visit the base to look over the radio equipment and once I have done this I would hope to be able to operate as VP8SGK. I anticipate this to be after 17 or 18z.

South Georgia is #12 on Club Log most wanted list.
