First woman to head ITU

ITUSince the foundation of ITU in 1865, it is the first time that a woman becomes the head of this organization that has been part of the United Nations since 1949.

American Doreen Bogdan-Martin was elected in a secret ballot with 139 votes, her opponent Russian Rashid Ismailov received 25 votes.

All radio amateurs and women worldwide can be proud of this election.
 

 

Jacques Verleijen ON4AVJ - Silent Key

Throughout the years Jacques has held many functions within the UBA. It is an impressive record of service, from 1992 until 2018.

HAM Radio and WRC 2023

Mr. Mario Maniewicz, director of the radio communications agencyAfter the previous WRC2019 in Sharm El Sheikh, the next WRC or World Radiocommunication Conferences, will take place from 20 November to 15 December 2023 in the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi or in Dubai.

UBA's decision regarding stations in the Russian Federation and Belarus

The UBA follows the actions of  the mainstream sporting bodies with regard to all activities of a competitive nature such as contests, awards and ARDF. Russian and Belarusian radio amateurs are  therefore currently ineligible to participate in any event that is organised/sponsored by the UBA.
 

Military use of the 6 m band

BIPT informs that between May 30 and June 18 2022 there will be a military exercise in Elzenborn. On that occasion 2 frequencies in the 6 meter band will be used:  50,200 MHz en 51,075 MHz.

The amateur radio service has a secondary status in this band, while the military service has a primary status.



Radioamateurs are asked to respect this and if possible avoid the use of these frequencies during this period and definitely listen very careful before transmitting if they want to use these frequencies.

Proximus launched, in the presence of competent minister Petra De Sutter, Stefaan De Clerck, Chairman of Proximus, and Guillaume Boutin, CEO of Proximus, the new ADA service.

UBA 75 On The Air Event - Awards

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of our UBA, more than 60 stations with the special ON75 prefix will be on the air during the months of January and February. Naturally, the UBA invites all amateurs worldwide to participate.

 

In the meantime the event has also received international publicity. From your cosy shack you will not only be able to hunt for these special stations: no less than eleven different certificates in two categories will be offered. You can read all about these certificates here.
