New Solar Cycle Prediction

An international panel of experts led by NOAA and sponsored by NASA has released a new prediction for the next solar cycle. Solar Cycle 24 will peak, they say, in May 2013 with a below-average number of sunspots.

EIØ9VOR - Volvo Ocean Yacht Race Special Event

Galway Radio Experimenters Club will be heard as EIØ9VOR for the Volvo Ocean Yacht Race, which visits Galway, Ireland from May 23rd 2009 to June 6th 2009. They will be on both SSB and CW and operating from Mutton Island Lighthouse.

ON100PES - België op Antarctica

België viert in 2009 een dubbele gebeurtenis op wetenschappelijk gebied. Het is reeds 100 jaar geleden dat Adrien de Gerlache aan boord van het schip de ‘Belgica’ de leiding had over de eerste Belgische wetenschappelijke expeditie naar het Antarctische continent (1897–1899). Op 15 februari 2009 is op Antarctica het nieuwe onderzoeksstation ‘Princess Elisabeth’ plechtig ingehuldigd. Dit nieuw wetenschappelijk onderzoekstation is het eerste in zijn soort dat aan het ‘zero emission’ concept voldoet.

De Haspengouwse radioamateurs ‘Trudo Radioamateurs Club – TRC’ willen deze samenvallende gebeurtenissen in de verf zetten door het hele jaar 2009 door ON100PES te activeren. De roepnaam bestaat uit het samenvoegen van drie elementen: ‘ON’ als prefix voor België, ‘100’ is de 100-jarige verjaardag voor de poolexpedities en ‘PES’ is het letterwoord voor ‘Princess Elisabeth Station’.

Een bijzondere dubbele QSL-kaart wordt toegezonden aan alle stations die hun QSL naar het clubstation ON4TRC sturen. Een award is eveneens voorzien voor OM die op vijf banden met dit station gewerkt hebben (HF + 2m/70cm).

Museum Ships Weekend 2009

D-Day 65th Anniversary

Between June 5 and 8, the special event station F/PA65DDAY will be active from Juno Beach to commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day on 80, 40 and 20m SSB. QSL via PA0HFT, direct or via the Dutch VERON bureau only.

TM5BBC will be active on June 4 to 12 from the square tower of the Castle of Creully to commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day. After the landing, starting on June 7, 1944, the BBC services used this building and from it, covered and broadcasted the information about the Battle of Normandy. Broadcasting on the original frequency of 1602 kHz, in AM, using rebuilt original gear, will be heard on June 4 and 5 between 1000-1100 UTC and on June 6 and 7, between 1130-1230 UTC. QSL via F2UW to the bureau.

TM6SME will be aired from Edemonville, a close village to Sainte Mère l'Eglise. Most of the activity will happen from June 5-7 on HF, and maybe 2m, CW and SSB. Contacts with TM6SME on two bands or two modes is worth a special award to be claimed via Michel F6IPS, with a large SAE. The cost of the award is at your choice in IRC, but not less than 2. QSL via F6IPS to the bureau.

Members of the South Flanders DX Activity Group will be active as F/ON6JUN/P from 3 till 8 June nearby the Pegasus Bridge memorial museum, operating all HF (especially WARC) bands in CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31/125.
